Rod is way cool... Reel is not the greatest!!!
The rod would get 4.5 stars and the reel gets a three, hence a average that works out to 4 stars. I ordered ths combo for back packing fishing kit. I wanted a spincaster because is small crowded bodies of water, I could get great casting control. As for the rod, it is not bad. In no way is it at the level of a regular solid reel like an ultralite ugly stick but it is pretty good for a stow away rod for back packing at a price that dirt cheap. I like the concept of a telescopic over a multi-sectional pole and this one would do the trick for my back packing needs. The only thing that is wrong with the pole is that there are no ceramic inlays on the eyelets, but I get buy good non-the-less. As for the reel, it is not all that great of a spin caster. It is very cheaply made and has more plastic than an aging Hollywood actresses face. It also is too big for the pole in my opinion spooled with 8 lbs test line on what seems to be an light/ultralight pole. I took it and mounted it on my...

better than any pocket fisherman
don't waste your money and buy a pocket fisher man, Buy this rod and a Zebco 11 micro and you will be happy. If your in the market for a back pack rod or glove box rod or pocket rod this rod and the zebco 11 real together are a wonder. But don't take my word, I'm just a novice. Good luck.
Very portable but sturdy
This HIGHLY portable rod and reel combo works great! My wife uses it and the very first fishing trip we went on, she caught a SEVEN POUND Largemouth Bass on it. The rig handled the fish just fine even though it is really not intended for big bass like that. It's a fairly light-weight rig with a very flexible rod that would probably be best suited to Crappie or White Bass but it handled that big ol' hog of a bass just fine. We're very happy with it and would recommend it to friends who want something collapsible so you can toss it in the toolbox of your pickup, or in the trunk of your car and forget it's there until you need it.
