Great Binoculars for Short Money
After exhaustive reseach on many sites, I committed to the new Zen Ray Vista 8x42 binoculars. The Vista is the entry level model in the Zen Ray line, but I have been amazed at the performance and quality of these Chinese-Made glasses. My goal was to replace my 7x50 marine glasses that I was never happy with and to have something good for general use, especially birding. Some of the key factors for me are: All air/glass surfaces multicoated; BK4 prisms; water-proof, sealed, gas-purged barrels; Rugged construction; Life-time warranty; overwhelming excellent reviews from many sources; and an attractive (not necessarily cheapest) price. There are several brands that met all these requirements, but what tipped it for me was the excellent near focus ability (6 feet, close enough to view butterflies), a phase correcting coating on the prisms to reduce color fringing, and a very modest price.
Since purchasing I have compared these glasses to several other (all more expensive)...
